         La inmortalidad del título del poema, se refiere a la inmortalidad del alma, la cual Wordsworth sostenía, se siente de manera muy íntima durante la niñéz. De allí, la famosa frase del Wordsworth, El Niño es el Padre del Hombre
        La poesía, nos enseña a desarrollar la capacidad de sentir. Y también, a la vez, es una advertencia que hemos perdido esa capacidad.
       Aunque la Éra Romántica desafió el orden social y  la religión establecida, fué una búsqueda sincera y bién intencionada hacia una nueva forma de vivir una nueva espiritualidad humana.
        Wordsworth murió en 1850, a la edad de 80 años.

The child is Father of the Man;
El niño es Padre del Hombre;
And I could wish my days to be
Y yo quisiera que mis días fueran
Bound each to each by natural piety.

There was a time when meadow, grove, and stream,
The earth, and every common sight,
La tierra, y cada mirada común,
To me did seem
A mí parecían
Apparell'd in celestial light,
Ataviados en luz celestial,
The glory and the freshness of a dream.
It is not now as it hath been of yore;—
Turn wheresoe'er I may,
Convertir en cualquier lugar me lo permiten,
By night or day,
Por día o noche
The things which I have seen I now can see no more.

The rainbow comes and goes,
El arcoiris va y viene
And lovely is the rose;
Y hermosa es la rosa;
The moon doth with delight
La luna ve con alegría
Look round her when the heavens are bare;
Mira a su alrededor cuando los cielos están desnudos;
Waters on a starry night
Las aguas en una noche estrellada
Are beautiful and fair;
Son bellas y justas
The sunshine is a glorious birth;
El sol es un nacimiento glorioso;
But yet I know, where'er I go,
That there hath pass'd away a glory from the earth.

Now, while the birds thus sing a joyous song,
And while the young lambs bound
Y mientras los corderos jovenes rodean
As to the tabor's sound,
Como al sonido del tambor
To me alone there came a thought of grief:
Allí a mí, solitario, viene un pensamineto de dolor
A timely utterance gave that thought relief,
And I again am strong:
Y de nuevo soy fuerte:
The cataracts blow their trumpets from the steep;
Las cataratas tocan sus trompetas en la acantilado;
No more shall grief of mine the season wrong;
No habrá más laménto mío la temporada mal;
I hear the echoes through the mountains throng,
The winds come to me from the fields of sleep,
And all the earth is gay;
Y toda la tierra esta alegre;
Land and sea
Tierra y mar
Give themselves up to jollity,
Se dan ellas mismas a la jovialidad,
And with the heart of May
Y con el corazón de mayo
Doth every beast keep holiday;—
Acaso todas las bestias guardan días santos;-
Thou Child of Joy,
Tu Niño de la Alegría
Shout round me, let me hear thy shouts, thou happy
Grita a mi alrededor, dejame escuchar tus gritos, tu felicidad
Shepherd-boy!
¡Niño-pastor!

Ye blessèd creatures, I have heard the call
Benditas criaturas, he oído el llamado
Ye to each other make; I see
The heavens laugh with you in your jubilee;
A los cielos reír con ustedes en su júbilo;
My heart is at your festival,
Mi corazón está en tu festival,
My head hath its coronal,
Mi cabeza tiene su corona,
The fulness of your bliss, I feel—I feel it all.
La plenitud de tu felicidad-la siento-la siento toda.
O evil day! if I were sullen
¡Oh día malo! Si yo fuera hosco
While Earth herself is adorning,
Mientras que la tierra se está adornando,
This sweet May-morning,
Esta dulce mañana de mayo,
And the children are culling
Y los niños son el sacrificio
On every side,
Por todas partes,
In a thousand valleys far and wide,
Fresh flowers; while the sun shines warm,
Flores frescas; mientras el sol brilla cálido,
And the babe leaps up on his mother's arm:—
I hear, I hear, with joy I hear!
Escúcho, escúcho, ¡Con gozo escúcho!
—But there's a tree, of many, one,
-Pero hay un árbol, de muchos, uno
A single field which I have look'd upon,
Un solo campo que he mirado,
Both of them speak of something that is gone:
Ambos de ellos hablan de algo que se ha ido:
The pansy at my feet
La flor a mis pies
Doth the same tale repeat:
¿A caso se repite la misma historia?
Whither is fled the visionary gleam?
¿A dónde ha huido el brillo visionario?
Where is it now, the glory and the dream?

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
Nuestro nacimiento no es mas que un sueño y un olvido:
The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
Ha tenido en otra parte su escenario,
And cometh from afar:
Y viene de lejos:
Not in entire forgetfulness,
No en el completo olvído,
And not in utter nakedness,
No en la completa desnudéz,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
Mas persigiendo nubes de gloria venimos
From God, who is our home:
De Dios, que es nuestro hogar:
Heaven lies about us in our infancy!
Shades of the prison-house begin to close
Las Cortina del hogar-prisión comiensa a cerrarse
Upon the growing Boy,
Sobre el niño que crece,
But he beholds the light, and whence it flows,
Mas él ve la luz, y de dónde fluye,
He sees it in his joy;
Él la ve en su alegría;
The Youth, who daily farther from the east
Must travel, still is Nature's priest,
And by the vision splendid
Y por la espléndida visión
Is on his way attended;
Está en su camino asistir;
At length the Man perceives it die away,
Extensamente el Hombre percibe que se extingue,
And fade into the light of common day.

Earth fills her lap with pleasures of her own;
La tierra llena su regazo con sus placeres propios;
Yearnings she hath in her own natural kind,
And, even with something of a mother's mind,
And no unworthy aim,
Y ningún objetivo que valga la pena,
The homely nurse doth all she can
To make her foster-child, her Inmate Man,
Forget the glories he hath known,
And that imperial palace whence he came.

Behold the Child among his new-born blisses,
A six years' darling of a pigmy size!
See, where 'mid work of his own hand he lies,
Fretted by sallies of his mother's kisses,
With light upon him from his father's eyes!
See, at his feet, some little plan or chart,
Some fragment from his dream of human life,
Shaped by himself with newly-learnèd art;
Hecho por él mismo con un árte recién aprendido;
    A wedding or a festival,
   Una boda o un festival,
    A mourning or a funeral;
   Un duelo o un funeral,
        And this hath now his heart,
     Y ésto tiene ahora su corazón,
    And unto this he frames his song:
   Y a esto estructúra su canción:
        Then will he fit his tongue
      Entonces ajustará su lengua
To dialogues of business, love, or strife;
A diálogos de negocios, amor, o lucha;
        But it will not be long
       Pero no pasará mucho tiempo
        Ere this be thrown aside,
       Antes que esto sea arrojado a un lado,
        And with new joy and pride
       Y con nueva alegría y orgullo
The little actor cons another part;
El pequeño actor conserve otra parte;
Filling from time to time his 'humorous stage'
With all the Persons, down to palsied Age,
That Life brings with her in her equipage;
Que la vida trae con ella en su equipaje;
        As if his whole vocation
       Como si toda su vocación
        Were endless imitation.
       Fuése eterna imitación.

Thou, whose exterior semblance doth belie
Tú, cuyo semblante exterior contradice
        Thy soul's immensity;
       La inmensidad de tu alma;
Thou best philosopher, who yet dost keep
Tu gran filósofo, quien aún mantienes
Thy heritage, thou eye among the blind,
Tu herencia, tu ojo entre los ciegos,
That, deaf and silent, read'st the eternal deep,
Haunted for ever by the eternal mind,—
Obsecionado para siempre por la mente eterna,-
        Mighty prophet! Seer blest!
       ¡Poderoso Profeta! ¡Vidente bendecido!
        On whom those truths do rest,
       En quien esas verdades descansan,
Which we are toiling all our lives to find,
In darkness lost, the darkness of the grave;
En perdída obscuridad, las tinieblas de la tumba;
Thou, over whom thy Immortality
Tú, sobre cuya inmortalidad
Broods like the Day, a master o'er a slave,
A presence which is not to be put by;
Una presencia que no es para ser formulada;
          To whom the grave
        A quien la tumba
Is but a lonely bed without the sense or sight
        Of day or the warm light,
       De día o de luz cálida,
A place of thought where we in waiting lie;
Un lugar de pensamiento donde nos encontramos a la espera;
Thou little Child, yet glorious in the might
Of heaven-born freedom on thy being's height,
Why with such earnest pains dost thou provoke
¿Porqué con dolores tan serios tu provocas
The years to bring the inevitable yoke,
Los años para llevar el yugo inevitable,
Thus blindly with thy blessedness at strife?
Full soon thy soul shall have her earthly freight,
Pronto completa tu alma tendrá sus bienes terrenos,
And custom lie upon thee with a weight,
Heavy as frost, and deep almost as life!

        O joy! that in our embers
        ¡Oh Alegría! Que en nuestras áscuas
        Is something that doth live,
        Es algo que vive,
        That nature yet remembers
        Que la naturaleza todavia recuerda
        What was so fugitive!
        ¡Que era tan fugáz!
The thought of our past years in me doth breed
Perpetual benediction: not indeed
Bendición perpétua: no verdaderamente
For that which is most worthy to be blest—
Delight and liberty, the simple creed
Placer y libertad, el simple credo
Of childhood, whether busy or at rest,
With new-fledged hope still fluttering in his breast:—
        Not for these I raise
       No para esto levánto
        The song of thanks and praise;
       La canción de agradecimiento y alabanza
    But for those obstinate questionings
    Pero por esas obstinadas preguntas
    Of sense and outward things,
    De sentido y las cosas exteriores;
    Fallings from us, vanishings;
    Callendo de nosotros, desvaneciendose;
    Blank misgivings of a Creature
    Recelos inextresívos de una criatura
Moving about in worlds not realized,
Moviéndose alrededor en mundos no realizados,
High instincts before which our mortal Nature
Did tremble like a guilty thing surprised:
Temblaba como una sorprendida cosa culpable:
        But for those first affections,
     Mas para esos primeros afectos,
        Those shadowy recollections,
     Esos recuerdos sombríos
      Which, be they what they may,
  Los cuales, es lo que ellos puedan,
Are yet the fountain-light of all our day,
Are yet a master-light of all our seeing;
Son aún la luz maestra de todo nuestro entender;
  Uphold us, cherish, and have power to make
Our noisy years seem moments in the being
Nuestros ruidosos años parecen momentos en nuestra existencia
Of the eternal Silence: truths that wake,
De el silencio eterno: verdades que despiertan,
            To perish never:
                 Para nunca perecer:
Which neither listlessness, nor mad endeavour,
Cual ni indiferencia, ni locos intentos,
            Nor Man nor Boy,
                 Ni el hombre ni el niño,
Nor all that is at enmity with joy,
Can utterly abolish or destroy!
¡Puede suprimir y destruir por completo!
    Hence in a season of calm weather
        Though inland far we be,
          Aunque ahora seamos continentales,
Our souls have sight of that immortal sea
        Which brought us hither,
          Que nos trajo hasta aquí,
    Can in a moment travel thither,
      Pueden en un momento viajar hasta allí,
And see the children sport upon the shore,
And hear the mighty waters rolling evermore.
Y escuchar las poderosas aguas rodando siempre.

Then sing, ye birds, sing, sing a joyous song!
Luego canten, ustedes aves, canten, ¡canten una alegre canción!
        And let the young lambs bound
         Y déja a los jovenes corderos saltar
        As to the tabor's sound!
         ¡Como al ritmo del tambor!
We in thought will join your throng,
      Ye that pipe and ye that play,
      Ye that through your hearts to-day
      Feel the gladness of the May!
         ¡Siente la alegría de Mayo!
What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
    Though nothing can bring back the hour
      Aunque nada pueda devolver la hora
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
De esplendor en la hierba, de gloria en la flor;
      We will grieve not, rather find
        No lloraremos, mas bién encontraremos
      Strength in what remains behind;
        Fortaleza en lo que queda atrás;
      In the primal sympathy
        En la simpatía primera
      Which having been must ever be;
        La cual habiendo sido debe ser siempre
      In the soothing thoughts that spring
 En los pensamientos tranquilizadores que emanan
      Out of human suffering;
        Fuera del sufrimiento humano;
      In the faith that looks through death,
        En la fe que mira a través de la muerte,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.

And O ye Fountains, Meadows, Hills, and Groves,
Y ¡Oh Fuentes, y vosotros, prados, Colinas y arboledas,
Forebode not any severing of our loves!
Preságian ninguna ruptura de nuestros amores!
Yet in my heart of hearts I feel your might;
I only have relinquish'd one delight
Solo he renunciado a un gozo
To live beneath your more habitual sway.
Vivir bajo tu más habitual infújo
I love the brooks which down their channels fret,
Even more than when I tripp'd lightly as they;
Aún más cuando troté ligeramente como ellos;
The innocent brightness of a new-born Day
            Is lovely yet;
               Es hermosos todavía;
The clouds that gather round the setting sun
Do take a sober colouring from an eye
Tomen un color serio de un ojo
That hath kept watch o'er man's mortality;
Que ha velado sobre la mortalidad del hombre;
Another race hath been, and other palms are won.
Thanks to the human heart by which we live,
Thanks to its tenderness, its joys, and fears,
Gracias a su ternura, su alegria, y temores,
To me the meanest flower that blows can give
Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears.
